Brazil Flood Relief Fund

Brazil is facing its most severe flooding in 80 years, resulting in the loss of dozens of lives and leaving many people missing. Flooding has caused widespread destruction across the country, displacing thousands of people, and the situation is expected to worsen. Your support for the Brazil Flood Relief Fund will provide emergency relief and long-term support to the most-affected communities.

Brazil is grappling with persistent flooding worsened by El Nino, known for bringing intense rainfall to the southern region. In Rio Grande do Sul, the situation has worsened significantly with the collapse of a hydroelectric dam after days of heavy rainfall and flooding. Approximately 500,000 people are cut off from electricity and clean water.

All donations to this fund will support flood-affected communities in Brazil, with a priority focus on the most disadvantaged and overlooked communities. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. It will also support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in impacted areas, particularly those working with low-income, historically underserved communities.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Brazil Flood Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Provide support to frontline workers
  • Meet other urgent needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
