What's Happening and How to Help

We believe that organizations that are deeply rooted in local communities are in the best position to provide long-term support for survivors of natural disasters like these. By funding the relief efforts of local organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future challenges.

The projects listed below are led by vetted GlobalGiving partners responding to this disaster. You can donate directly to a specific project or to GlobalGiving’s Brazil Flood Relief Fund and we'll allocate it to where it's needed most. GlobalGiving will post reports about how your donation has been put to use.

Sports & Education for Children Affected by Floods
In May 2024, an unimaginable climate disaster occurred in the Rio Grande do Sul region of Brazil. An "el nino" storm brought nonstop rainfall for four days, unexpectedly causing the worst flooding ever recorded in this region. The resulting floods left hundreds of children without school for months, detrimentally affecting their physical and emotional health and overall development.
Brazil Flooding - Rescuing Education
South Brazil has been tragically hit by unprecedent flooding, with over 400 cities and 2,3M people impacted. People living in temporary shelters are now traumatized even by the noise of rain. Schools have been destroyed. This project prioritizes children education and mom-baby support. With efforts on rebuilding schools and infant support, we believe on the importance to offer for thousands of kids impacted a smoother access back to their education, technology and mental health.
Education in Emergencies in Brazil
Brazil faces constant natural disaster risks, especially in the South, leaving vulnerable communities without safe access to education. The project advances Education in Emergencies, acting before, during, and after climate crises. It includes teacher training, learning materials, technology investment, and post-disaster opportunities so children, youth, adults, and older people can continue learning and rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Zona da Mata, MG, Brazil - Disaster relief
The project will provide financial aid for the population affected by the extreme rainfall in Zona da Mata region in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The aid is delivered through our Humanitarian Card, restricted exclusively to food-related purchases, reestablishing dignity of choice for the recipients while also avoiding economic crashes to the local markets by not flooding them with material food donations.

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
