Challenge

Wildfires have rapidly spread through communities in and around Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. As many as 6,000 homes are believed to have been damaged in the fire. These fires also come at a particularly challenging time in Chile, with record-breaking summer heatwaves adding particular difficulty to displaced communities and firefighting efforts. Chilean officials have confirmed the fires as the worst disaster in the country since a cataclysmic earthquake in 2010.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts in Chile and affected communities. These efforts will be led by GlobalGiving's network of vetted partners in the region. Initially, the fund will help meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, medicines and medical supplies, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery and resiliency efforts led by local, vetted organizations.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Chile Wildfire Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Provide support to frontline workers
  • Meet other urgent needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
