Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada Update!

Game Tech

As summer comes to an end, the leaves are beginning to change and fall season is just around the corner. We’ve had a terrific summer at Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada – here are a few of the highlights:

Game Tech
Game Tech continues to be a great success in all of our participating Clubs and continues to be one of the most popular programs offered. Through Game Tech, children and youth challenge each other to be creative, designing and playing each other’s video game masterpieces! Over the late spring, Club staff attended a training webinar to ensure they were properly equipped to run the program in their Clubs. There was also a peer-to-peer training session amongst Club members. Participating Clubs ran the program for 8 weeks and are now gearing up to run another 8 week session in the fall.

Clubs express how much this program is an eye opener for the children and youth involved, as many did not realized how much work goes into making an animated computer character perform a specific action. Almost all participants have never been exposed to computer programming and the process of composing a video game!

National Youth Forum
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s bi-annual National Youth Forum has once again left an unforgettable mark on the lives of 180 young leaders who gathered in Kamloops, British Columbia for this ‘life-changing’ event. Led by the National Youth Council and designed ‘for youth by youth’, Oasis 2013 enabled young Canadians to come together to discuss important issues, develop new skills, expand their knowledge about the arts, culture and environment and boost their self-esteem.

Thank you for your generous support of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.

Game Tech Update:

We are pleased to announce that in late March 2013, 6 more Clubs have been selected to run the Game Tech Program! The following Clubs will have this exciting program up and running in the coming months: Boys and Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria (BC); Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC (BC); Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton (ON); Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes (ON); Albion Neighborhood Services Boys and Girls Clubs (ON); Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club (ON).

Game Tech continues to be a great success in all of the participating Clubs and continues to be one of the most popular programs offered. The members challenge each other to be even more creative, and are very enthusiastic to see everyone’s final results!

Your support of this program allows our young members to gain valuable skills they would not otherwise have learned – opening doors to new opportunities and experiences.

What's New at Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada:
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada released the results of a unique, national youth opinion survey on Thursday, May 23, 2013 and launched The World According to Us, a platform where young Canadians can share their thoughts and voice their opinions about what matters to them.

For the 83% of Canadian youth who feel they can make a difference in the world and their communities, the survey revealed that the key driver of their confidence is the support and love of family, friends and adult members. The durvey, conducted by international research consultancy GlobeScan and shaped by young people themselves, found that adults - be they parents, family, teachers, mentors or role models - play a key role in helping youth feel confident and good about themselves.
