As summer comes to an end, the leaves are beginning to change and fall season is just around the corner. We’ve had a terrific summer at Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada – here are a few of the highlights:
Game Tech
Game Tech continues to be a great success in all of our participating Clubs and continues to be one of the most popular programs offered. Through Game Tech, children and youth challenge each other to be creative, designing and playing each other’s video game masterpieces! Over the late spring, Club staff attended a training webinar to ensure they were properly equipped to run the program in their Clubs. There was also a peer-to-peer training session amongst Club members. Participating Clubs ran the program for 8 weeks and are now gearing up to run another 8 week session in the fall.
Clubs express how much this program is an eye opener for the children and youth involved, as many did not realized how much work goes into making an animated computer character perform a specific action. Almost all participants have never been exposed to computer programming and the process of composing a video game!
National Youth Forum
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s bi-annual National Youth Forum has once again left an unforgettable mark on the lives of 180 young leaders who gathered in Kamloops, British Columbia for this ‘life-changing’ event. Led by the National Youth Council and designed ‘for youth by youth’, Oasis 2013 enabled young Canadians to come together to discuss important issues, develop new skills, expand their knowledge about the arts, culture and environment and boost their self-esteem.
THANK YOU
Your continued support enables our young people to gain valuable skills and have access to vital opportunities just like the ones listed above - continuing to help open doors to new experiences, paving the way for a successful future. Once again, thank you for your incredible support of our young people. We look forward to updating you on the continued progress of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada in the weeks ahead!
