Being Prepared for the Cold
When the cold weather descended onto the province of Chiangmai, the girls in the dormitory based at the local school were glad that they had a warm blanket to hide under especially in the cold nights, up on the highlands.
The Foundation for Life had prepared for blankets to send to our contacts in the dormitory, as contributions and collections were on-going through out the year. When came the time for the cold season, the warm blankets were already rolled out the the areas of need.
Being Prepared when Called
Out of the blue, there was a call by our donor / volunteer who was looking to help a centre for abandoned elderly folks, in the province of Radchaburi. As a result, the Foundation decided to lend a helping hand by supplementing with nutritious drinks for the clients in the elderly home, while assessing how we may also shower these people with love.
The centre is run by Uncle Sanit, who lived in the province of Radchaburi. Thirty years ago, he used to operate a massage sevice for paralysed people till they recovered. Thus, he became well-known in the region. Many people brought the old folks for his services, and some even abandoned them to his care.
From that, he decided to set up a small foundation by himself, calling for help by ad-hoc well-wishers. To date, he has 98 clients that he takes care of, mostly elderly, bedridden and with multiple chronic diseases. Families either did not have the know-how or the means to sustain them, therefore a majority are abandoned.
Mr Moo (not his real name) repeatedly related, "I was hit in a motor accident, and after a few years, my wife left me and I was sent here to stay."
Mdm Bua (not real name) who was around 100 years old said, "I have no family members... they all passed away, so my neighbour brought me here."
With only around 6 to 8 staffs to look after all the needs of these people, the clients were left mostly alone throughout the day. Therefore, when visitors come and they make a point to talk to them and give them a little snack, it lifts up their moods and make their day.
The Foundation is glad that we are able to be of help and bring some joy to the disheartened, especially during this time of COVID where safe distancing measures social bonding difficult.
A Big Thank-you to all donors who have enabled us to reach out to the underprivileged with the hope to Blanket Them With Love!!
Best regards,
Vena Lung
