Shree Geetamata Nature Club being operated in Geetamata Higher Secondary School, Dallu, Kathmandu is one of the school among various institutions, where ECCA has been working with students to increase awareness on safe drinking water in the community. Various remarkable activities like street drama, rally, door-to-door programs, exhibitions etc had been performed by the students in past through nature club in their school and community. And, promoting safe drinking water is one of the themes among various others as a regular outdoor event of nature club as community service, which they have been performing regularly.
Mr. Bishal (Member of Geetamata Nature Club, grade 9), as an active member and leader of the team for implementing safe drinking water in the community gained several experience on promoting the campaign in the community. Through his past experience, he shares that implementing this program in the community benefited the students along with the community as well as created a bond between community members and the nature club. The program helped students increase their leadership skills, public speaking skills and decreased the shyness in students. Where as it decreased water borne diseases in the community members. The students got an opportunity to implement their learning’s from book to their day to day life where as the community members experience on how the teachers are teaching their students through interacting with them.
Mr. Rajendra (member of Geetamata Nature Club, grade 9) shared that he feels good and happy to share his knowledge about safe drinking water to his community people. His dream is to see his city as a safe drinking water zone city. He said it was really fun and also helpful to increase skills like communication, leadership, teamwork.
