Hello friends!
Are you having a great summer? Ready for the "Back-to School season"?
Students at PIO start classes in November and continue year-round- 256 days of schools which is more than the local public schools. This way, they continue to learn and have access to nutritious meals as well as PIO's clinic and activities. We are happy to share their success from this past semester with you.
PIO is an official school in Cambodia and reports student assessments to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport on a monthly basis. The pass rates have remained consistent compared to previous years. All students also took their end of semester examinations. Any students who do not pass their exams can retake the test or repeat their grade level. For the national curriculum subjects (Science, Math, Social Studies, Khmer), the pass rate is 79% with a range from 64% to 96%. The pass rate for English exams is 72%. Additionally, PIO just received confirmation that 95% of the Grade 6 students passed their public exams for admission to high school!
An interesting development at PIO is the creation of a science room for students to begin conducting experiments, an opportunity rarely offered in Cambodia for public schools and NGO’s. They also developed more apps for students, which has increased engagement in the English program, math classes, and coding
club.
We would also like to share that students who graduated from PIO’s elementary level education are continuing successfully in their secondary education through PIO's new high school, achieving a 90% pass rate on their monthly exams. The PIO High School has proven to be an incentive for students to remain at PIO for the duration of their academic careers which is a positive indicator that more students will gain a higher level of education.
In August, students will participate in speech and math competitions as well as their end of year
celebrations.
Would you like to "meet" one of the students from PIO?
Hi! I am Phirun. I am 13 years old. I am studying in Grade 8 of People Improvement Organization. I live with my parents, two sisters and brother. I have attended PIO for 6 years. I love to learn at PIO through taking full-time classes in school and part-time classes learning (subjects) such as coding and math in the evening.
I chose to attend PIO because my family was (too) poor to afford my education. PIO not only lets the students to study in school, but also supports them until they graduate Grade 12. I have changed (since) I (have been studying) at PIO. I (can) speak English well. I (can) acknowledge experiences, (receive) encouragement from all teachers and from the activities program in school. I love and respect all activities that the school (offers) my schoolmates and me. I am really excited to study here. My favourite subjects are English, Drawing, and Computer Science. In the future, I want to be a video designer or a business trader.
Thank you.
Thank you for continuing to support JustWorld and the students at People Improvement Organization. The progress and success of these students would not be possible without your generosity and vision for their future. We look forward to sending more updates in the future!
