  1. FIFTH Aquabox shipment delivered to Yemen and distributed.

Aquabox has been able to send its fifth shipment to Yemen. By working in partnership, this time with Water Survival Box and Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire (JOY), they have filled another 40-foot container with aid. This is a great example of partnership between Aquabox and other charities who share humanitarian aims and principles of service.

The Aquabox part of the shipment was 200 gold boxes, each of which contains a family water filter and various humanitarian aid items. Aquabox are proud to continue to send support to such a challenging destination and are most grateful to the agencies on the ground who ensure the proper distribution of the aid.

The fifth shipment recently arrived in the port of Aden ago and is currently being distributed.

Cost to Aquabox of fifth shipment to Yemen.

    200 gold boxes @ £150 per box = £ 30,000, with each box including a family filter.

2. Total shipments to Yemen to date.

3. Plan for a SIXTH shipment of aid to Yemen.

Aquabox will continue to offer help wherever they can with a sixth shipment to Yemen now in preparation. Funds are currently being raised to support this further shipment of aid.

Production at the depot has been impacted by the lockdown but is now making family filters at the rate of about 2/3 of the newly increased production capacity.

Please help support a sixth shipment of aid to Yemen. We are most grateful for the donations already received and transferred to Aquabox each month. The key limit to gold box production is the amount of donations received.

Every Gold box costs £150 before it even leaves the depot. Every community filter costs £250.

Funds are currently being raised to support this further shipment of aid.

Aquabox rely entirely on the donations and fundraising activities of their supporters to purchase filter components and items which are supplied in the aid boxes. Without the generosity of our supporters, they would not be able to continue this work. The production capacity has been increased, with the key limit of production capacity being the amount of donations received.

  1. Yemen status summary.

The terrible situation in Yemen is the greatest humanitarian crisis of our time. People there are trapped in a dreadful cycle of conflict, starvation and sickness. Access to safe drinking water is extremely limited or non-existent.

It is estimated that 17 million people are currently at risk (including 11 million children). There have been over 85,000 child deaths since the conflict began. Water supplies and sanitation systems have been decimated - in some cases deliberately targeted. Cholera is at epidemic levels as a result.

Aquabox have acted to support and empower the people in this dreadful environment. Together with a partner charity JOY (Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire), Aquabox have delivered and successfully distributed three humanitarian aid packages to the country over the past two years. This has been accomplished despite the intrinsic danger to those acting on our behalf.

The joint consignments contain the Aquabox family water filters and other items of humanitarian aid, together with much needed dried food and medical supplies and equipment from JOY. Over 5000 people have been supported by this aid, many in small family groups, but much more is needed.

  1. Aquabox shipment reaches Yemen for the 3rd time in 3 years.

Since the last report #4 the third and latest shipment described therein has reached Yemen by way of Southampton and Aden. The Aquabox aid was finally distributed to local groups in March 2020. We were so pleased to receive the photographs displayed in the detail pdf report.

Since its formation in 1992, Aquabox has distributed more than 110,000 boxes to communities suffering from natural disasters or man-made conflicts, helping hundreds of thousands of people in more than 50 countries around the world. In Yemen, the latest estimates suggest 3.3 million people are now displaced, and a child dies every 10 minutes.

Innovative AquaFilter technology produces safe and clean drinking water instantly and reliably without the need for chemicals. The AquaFilter Family and Community units are based on sub-micron filters which are impenetrable to bacteria and most viruses.

Aquabox rely entirely on the donations and fundraising activities of their supporters in order to purchase filter components and items which are supplied in the aid boxes. Without the generosity of our supporters, they would not be able to continue this work. The production capacity could be expanded, with the key limit of current capacity being the amount of donations received.

1. News of the recent Aquabox aid shipment to YEMEN.

Yemen January 2020

The third and latest consignment to Yemen left the Aquabox depot on 16 January 2020. The planned shipment date from the depot was originally meant to be December, as previously reported, but it was decided to modify stocks so that the gold boxes would include the new Mark3 filters and also meet the latest request for additional items.

The shipment comprised of 250 Gold boxes, 5 Community filters and 120 Family filters. This consignment will provide the means of dispensing safe drinking water for 4000 people. It went by truck to Shipley, where our partners JOY (Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire) are based, to have medical and educational supplies added to the container before going by train to Southampton for shipment to Aden and onward distribution into the communities that have been so badly hit by the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

Many thanks to the Aquabox team of volunteers for all their help in getting this donation ready and for assistance with loading the container, including repacking the 120 Gold Boxes so as to replace Mark2 filters with Mark3 filters. A very special thanks to Ian for his very hard work moving boxes of 19 kilos 250 times during this exercise.

Cost to Aquabox of this shipment to Yemen.

250 gold boxes @ £150 per box £ 37,500

120 Family Filters @ £25       £ 3,000

5 Community Filters @ £250    £ 1,250

Well done to all and a very big thanks to all Aquabox supporters who have helped to make this aid possible.
