July 2026 Report

Overview

“Advancing Education and Opportunity through Rugby” is a mission rooted in the belief that sport, especially rugby, can be a catalyst for change. Across the world, communities are using the values of rugby to open doors for young people, providing access to support systems that go far beyond the game itself.

In areas where opportunity is limited, rugby offers a framework for hope: one that blends physical activity with mentorship, life skills, education, and emotional well-being.

Rugby as a Pathway to Development

In diverse communities, rugby is being harnessed not just for athletic engagement but as a structured pathway toward broader personal and social growth. Programs inspired by this mission are creating spaces where young people can feel safe, supported, and seen, laying the foundation for future success.

Accessibility from the USA to South Africa

Our Atlas South Africa Villager FC Deaf Rugby Programme is making an impact by improving accessibility, inclusion, and opportunity for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

Atlas Ambassador Richard Austin MBE recently visited the programme alongside Atlas South Africa Trustee Percy Montgomery, UK Consul General Colin Leeman, and England Deaf Rugby player Lily Phillips to see its impact firsthand. Children here participate on equal terms, and witnessing the young people communicate, connect, and play rugby freely demonstrated the transformative role accessibility and inclusion can have in shaping futures.

Teachers report that after training sessions, participants return to school calmer, more focused, and better able to engage in the classroom. On the field, they are free from limitations; laughing, learning, and expressing themselves with confidence. For these youngsters who are living in the school hostel during term time, these twice-weekly sessions are a highlight of their week.

By creating safe spaces where young people are free from limitations, programmes like Villager FC are helping children build skills and self-belief that extend far beyond the rugby field.

Sustaining the Vision

This work is made possible through ongoing support - funds that allow programs to provide essentials like gear, travel assistance, meals, academic guidance, and participation in shared events. These resources ensure that no young person is left behind due to financial or logistical barriers.

By investing in programs aligned with this mission, donors help build environments where young people can learn, grow, and lead.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead to the new school year, we continue to advance education and opportunity through rugby. As interest in rugby-based development continues to grow, so too does the potential for impact. With each new programme, the ripple effect of opportunity expands - creating a stronger, more connected future for all involved.
