On a very cloudy Wednesday, I visited Hyra and Mergim's family. The lack of the sun's brightness that day was replaced with the smiles of their two lovely kids whom eyes were shining. This family may not have much materially speaking but, the warmth and heartfelt hospitality is unmatched.
Hyra and Mergim's family is one of the most vulnerable families living in Fushe Kosove. The only income this family has is from the cans that Mergim sells after a careful collection within the whole city. He tries his best to take care of the household with the small amount of money he gets from the sales, but the pandemic, as he explains, has had its consequences. Therefore, every day they hope that someone will knock on the door and bring food for the kids.
Even though Mergim and Hyra didn’t have the chance to get proper education, they are willing to sacrifice everything for the education of their 5 kids. “I remind my kids every day that they have to study hard, so that they can be able to get anything we couldn’t provide them”- Hyra said while holding their youngest son.
Several weeks ago, we provided food and clothes for this family, thanks to some good hearted people. Mergim and Hyra were so grateful and happy to get such help, especially for their kids, as they say. However, this lovely family still needs basic things in order to be able to have the normal healthy life they deserve to have.
Besides their problems and the fear that they’re failing as parents, they find courage to put a smile on their face all day long and play with the kids, pretending that life is being kind to them. They are hopeful for the future which in a way or another stands in the hands of generous people, who they are very grateful for.
Despite life’s problems and challenges, the help offered by generous individuals who turn grey days into sunshine, helps them find courage to put a smile on their face all day long and play with the kids with hope that the future of their children beholds better living conditions.
Gratefully,
