The Casa Familiar (CF) at the Juana Colon School in Comerio opened its doors with great enthusiasm in 2020 at the school staff's request, recognizing the school community's socioemotional needs. As a result of Hurricane Fiona, the entire physical space of the (CF) was affected by La Plata river flooding, leaving in the interior completely destroyed. It is estimated that the water level reached six feet, damaging everything inside. Donate to provide emergency relief to this school community.
Hurricane Fiona affected the Juana Colon (CF) space damaging all the furniture (desks, chairs, tables, coffee bar, bookshelves, files) office equipment (including the printer) and materials. Among the materials were books, art and craft materials, activity manuals and a therapeutic doll. Both the interior and exterior paintwork was affected and it is unknown how much damage was caused to the electrical system. This effectively left this school community without this important space for healing.
The donations to this micro project will be used to directly impact the recuperation effort of Juana Colon School Casa Familiar by repairing and replacing everything damaged during hurricane Fiona. Thus giving back to this school community this space for healing much needed during the aftermath of hurricane Fiona.
After it is restored, Juana Colon Casa Familiar can continue its work impacting 39 families, which benefit free of charge of psychological therapy, yoga therapy, music therapy, art therapy, counseling, workshops for parents and caregivers, support groups, ludic activities, accompaniment, referrals for psychological services, and emotional stabilization, among others. Effectively giving them back a dignified environment in which they can continue to share and peace is promoted.
