We continue cultivating sustainability!

Estimados/as Aliados/as,

Queremos expresar nuestro más profundo agradecimiento por su generoso apoyo al microproyecto "Cultivate Sustainability: Composting in 20 Schools". Aunque no logramos alcanzar el objetivo de recaudación establecido, su contribución ha sido invaluable y ha elevado la discusión sobre la importancia de la composta en las escuelas públicas Montessori que participan en el Programa Enraizando.

Gracias a su apoyo, hemos logrado sensibilizar a estudiantes, educadores y comunidades sobre los beneficios ambientales y educativos de la práctica de compostar. Este esfuerzo ha sembrado semillas de conciencia y acción hacia un futuro más sostenible y equitativo. Nos gustaría recordarles que, sin importar el resultado fiscal, cada donación ha tenido un impacto significativo en la promoción de la justicia ambiental y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes.

Los fondos recaudados apoyarán el proyecto Enraizando de la Escuela Montessori Salomón Rondón Tollens, donde recientemente adquirieron un cajón de composta. Gracias a estos fondos, podremos proporcionarles herramientas esenciales como horquillas, cubos con tapas y guantes para facilitar el inicio de su proyecto de composta.

Próximos pasos: lo que soñamos

A pesar de los desafíos, seguimos comprometidos con el objetivo de implementar la composta en nuestras escuelas. A continuación, compartimos algunas de las metas que soñamos alcanzar en el proyecto original:

Fortalecer el programa educativo sobre la importancia de la composta y su impacto positivo en el medio ambiente.
Instalar estaciones de composta en las 20 escuelas participantes para facilitar la recolección de residuos orgánicos.
Capacitar a estudiantes y educadores en prácticas de manejo de residuos y sostenibilidad.
Fomentar la participación de la comunidad en eventos relacionados con la composta, promoviendo un enfoque colaborativo hacia la sostenibilidad.
Monitorear y evaluar el impacto de la iniciativa a lo largo del tiempo para compartir resultados y lecciones aprendidas con otras escuelas.

Dear Donors,

We want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous support of the microproject "Cultivate Sustainability: Composting in 20 Schools." Although we did not reach our established fundraising goal, your contribution has been invaluable, elevating the discussion on the importance of composting in the public Montessori schools participating in the Enraizando Program.

Thanks to your support, we have successfully raised awareness among students, educators, and communities about the environmental and educational benefits of composting. This effort has planted seeds of awareness and action towards a more sustainable and equitable future. We want to remind you that, regardless of the fiscal outcome, every donation has had a significant impact on promoting environmental justice and the well-being of our students.

The funds raised will support the Enraizando project at Salomón Rondón Tollens Montessori School, where they have just acquired a compost bin. Thanks to these funds, we will be able to provide essential tools such as pitchforks, lidded buckets, and gloves to help them start their composting project.

Despite the challenges, we remain committed to the goal of implementing composting in our schools. Below are some of the goals we dreamed of achieving in the original project:

Monitor and evaluate the impact of the initiative over time to share results and lessons learned with other schools.

Composting in Montessori Schools

The Environmental Impact of Redirecting Organic Waste through School Composting

The mission of the Enraizando Project is to support the school transformation of public Montessori schools by fostering children's commitment to the common good through environmental awareness. This project strengthens the cultural studies component and is based on the principles of cosmic education, which are practiced daily in the school environment. It encourages children to learn about ecosystems and how to protect them. The project exposes participants to: (1) hands-on experiences in their schools and communities, (2) visits to natural areas, and (3) workshops on planting and environmental topics.

Composting organic waste at school plays a vital role in reducing the environmental footprint. Instead of sending organic waste to landfills where it releases harmful methane gases, school composting provides a sustainable solution. By engaging students and teachers in the composting process, organic materials are redirected to nourish the soil, helping plants grow and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. This reduces pollution, conserves resources, and minimizes the strain on waste management systems.

Additionally, the practice of composting at schools teaches students about the natural cycle of life and fosters a deep connection to the environment. They learn firsthand how small changes in waste management can have a significant impact on the health of the planet. This knowledge empowers future generations to adopt sustainable behaviors in their personal lives and beyond.

El Impacto Ambiental de Redirigir Residuos Orgánicos a través del Compostaje Escolar

La misión del Proyecto Enraizando es apoyar la transformación escolar de las escuelas públicas Montessori al desarrollar el compromiso de los niños/as con el bien común a través de la conciencia ambiental. Este proyecto fortalece el componente de estudios culturales y se fundamenta en los principios de la educación cósmica que se trabajan a diario en el ambiente escolar, fomentando que los niños/as aprendan sobre los ecosistemas y cómo protegerlos. El proyecto expone a sus participantes a: (1) experiencias prácticas y concretas en sus escuelas y comunidad, (2) visitas a áreas naturales y (3) talleres sobre siembra y temas ambientales.

El compostaje de residuos orgánicos en las escuelas juega un papel fundamental en la reducción del impacto ambiental. En lugar de enviar los residuos orgánicos a vertederos donde liberan gases metano dañinos, el compostaje escolar ofrece una solución sostenible. Al involucrar a estudiantes y maestros en el proceso de compostaje, los materiales orgánicos se redirigen para nutrir el suelo, ayudando al crecimiento de plantas y reduciendo la necesidad de fertilizantes químicos. Esto reduce la contaminación, conserva recursos y minimiza la presión sobre los sistemas de gestión de residuos.

Además, la práctica del compostaje en las escuelas enseña a los estudiantes sobre el ciclo natural de la vida y fomenta una profunda conexión con el medio ambiente.
