Summary

Imagine the endless possibilities brought about by providing quality education for children in disadvantaged communities. This microproject will allow children's access to computers with internet and supervised computer classes from an expert. Moving forward, these children will learn how to use computers. Education levels the playing field, allowing everyone to compete. We've already raised $3,488 towards our total budget of $8700, we're posting a new microproject to reach our full target.

Challenge

Due to limited resources, most schools in Kibera do not have computer labs. Children do not have access to computers, the internet, or teachers to teach them about technology. This means children in Kibera miss out on a lot of learning that could give them an edge in their further education.

Solution

The Fountains of Hope Primary School offers free quality education to improve children's learning outcomes and better prepare them for future employment. A computer lab will ensure these children get equipped with computer skills and exposure to the internet in a controlled environment. We intend to provide 11 laptops and 10 desktop computers, furniture, a projector, a backup generator, and a whiteboard. Funds will also be used to acquire the software and connect electricity to the computer lab.

Long-Term Impact

We are looking at ultimately getting more children from Kibera ready for future employment in a world that is increasingly digital. It is clear that moving forward, ICT is a field that will provide a myriad of employment opportunities. Most importantly, we are setting our eyes on seeing a community empowered to use technology to find solutions to the problems affecting them. All this will be made possible by investing in the community education system at the primary level.
