Afghan Institute of Learning

The Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) works to empower all Afghans who are needy, especially women and children, providing them the knowledge and skills to care for themselves. AIL is expanding access to quality education and healthcare through community based programming, enabling communities to develop the capacity of their people. The goal is to create a foundation of quality education and health systems throughout Afghanistan which meet the needs of local people now and in the future. AIL was founded by an Afghan woman and is run by women, reaching thousands each year through health facilities, educational centers and training programs.

Continuing Assistance

The AIL Herat Office continues to provide monthly assistance to those families that were identified by the village elders.  These families receive enough staples to last through the month.  The staples include rice, vegetable oil and flour.  The families are so thankful for the help of AIL, and we wouldn’t be able to provide for them without your kind donations.  From them and from all of us at CHI and AIL – we say Thank You!!

Please remember that Wednesday, June 13th (beginning at 12:01 AM EST) is a Bonus Day through Global Giving.  Donations received that day will be provided a matching gift of 30, 40 or 50 percent.

Spring Planting

It has already been a busy Spring for the Afghan Institute of Learning’s (AIL) green projects.  In Herat, 220 various trees and flowers were planted in two new garden areas.  The plantings included roses, amaranths, and redbuds.  A section for vegetables was also included.

The children at the Orphanage Learning Center recently planted nine trees and many flowers on the grounds of the orphanage as part of the “Connecting Children With Nature” program developed by AIL. At another location in Herat, students of an AIL Learning Center planted eleven more trees and a variety of flowers at the courtyard of their school.

In Kabul, the staff at the AIL Learning Centers have involved the students from kindergarten through high school in planting.  They have planted more than 1000 trees and flowers this Spring at their local schools, learning centers, clinics and at the AIL Office.

Closer to Goal and Needed More Than Ever

In addition to the school and the learning center that is housed in the Yacoobi Foundation Learning Center, the Afghan Institute of Learning has added a medical clinic.  The clinic is set up in one room of the building and the students and local residents have access to medical care.  The need for a clean water source just keeps growing.  We have received an outside donation for the new well and are getting very close to our goal!

Please remember that Wednesday, June 13th (beginning at 12:01 AM EST) is a Bonus Day through Global Giving.  Donations received that day will be provided a matching gift of 30, 40 or 50 percent.
