We are grateful to partner with you and are excited to welcome you to the GlobalGiving community. You were likely first introduced to GlobalGiving through a grant for disaster recovery. GlobalGiving is a leader in disaster relief and recovery, providing more than $100 million in support to local organizations in disaster-affected communities. This Post-Disaster Guide to GlobalGiving will introduce you to the many benefits of your partnership with GlobalGiving.
GlobalGiving is a nonprofit that supports other nonprofits by connecting them to donors and companies. Since 2002, we’ve helped trusted, community-led organizations from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe (and hundreds of places in between) access the tools, training, and support they need to serve their communities.
Q: How can I receive more disaster grants through GlobalGiving?
A: At this time, there is no grant application process to receive support from GlobalGiving Funds. Rather, GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response Team works to make grantmaking decisions focused on high need areas, marginalized communities, and other impact factors which always vary depending on the Fund. We encourage you to post a project describing your organization’s response efforts, which we often share with media, individual, and corporate donors. Additionally, you can email us at disasters@globalgiving.org with any updates on your organization’s response.
Q: How will we know if GlobalGiving is issuing a new round of disaster grants?
A: Members of GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response Team will be in direct contact with organizations in our nonprofit network throughout the year to notify them of funding opportunities from GlobalGiving disaster relief and recovery funds. Keeping your project updated with reports and photos about your work is a great way to keep our team and prospective donors informed about what you’re doing in your community. Additionally, It is always helpful for nonprofit partners in our network to update the Disaster Response Team of their disaster or crisis response work by emailing us at disasters@globalgiving.org.
Q: How does GlobalGiving decide when to launch a Fund in response to a disaster?
A: The decision of whether GlobalGiving launches a response to a disaster or crisis event is often difficult. We analyze whether there is both a clear need amongst our network of partners, and whether there is enough donor interest to generate funding. Launching a fund without any donors is frustrating (and potentially even harmful) to our partners. Launching a fund without any responding partners means we may not be able to channel the funding toward vetted organizations with the capacity to respond.
Q: How should I let GlobalGiving know if we are responding to a disaster?
A: We encourage all partners to post a project describing your organization’s response efforts. Additionally, you can email us at disasters@globalgiving.org.
Q: How can we connect with GlobalGiving’s corporate partners?
A: GlobalGiving partners with hundreds of companies, as well as employee giving platforms such as Benevity and YourCause which are widely used in the workplace. These partnerships allow companies the option to display all GlobalGiving projects, including your own, to their employees.
The added visibility from GlobalGiving’s corporate partnerships provides you with the opportunity to reach new donors not already in your network. Plus, when a donation is made to your project through a company that matches donations, your donation will be doubled! You can see the total amount of GlobalGiving-driven funds, which includes donations from corporate donors on your disbursement dashboard.
The best way to be noticed by GlobalGiving’s corporate partners is by being active on our platform! Be sure to choose meaningful and grammatically correct project titles, post great photos, keep donors updated with project reports, and complete Effectiveness cycles in GG Rewards.

Q: What does it cost to join GlobalGiving?
A: There is no cost for nonprofits to join our community, and you can rest assured that donations made through GlobalGiving are efficiently delivered to their intended destination. That being said, in order for us to achieve our mission and provide the best tools, training, and support to our amazing partners, we do retain a small percentage of every donation.
We pass along the 3% processing fee that third parties charge us at no markup to our nonprofit partners. From there, we retain a 5-12% nonprofit support fee. You can learn more about how these fees are determined here.
Q: What is Facebook’s Crisis Donate Button?
A: In the aftermath of a disaster, Facebook’s crisis pages now feature a donate button that enables Facebook users to donate funds to support disaster recovery efforts around the world. GlobalGiving directs these funds to verified, primarily local nonprofit partner organizations in impacted areas responding to emergencies and supporting local communities. No fees are retained by either Facebook or GlobalGiving on donations made through the crisis donate button. To learn more about this partnership, you can review this page.
