Challenge

Afghanistan is going through an employment crisis. Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost since the Taliban takeover last August, with women, particularly hard hit. The U.N.'s International Labor Organization estimates in the last 20 years, Afghan women have had an active role in the global technology sector. This Program aims to provide the opportunity for more women from Afghanistan at this critical time to secure the gains and further build up to create future leaders in the technology.

Solution

In Afghanistan, women and girls face restrictions on pursuing higher education and employment, leading to significant challenges in combating unemployment. Recognizing the critical state of education for Afghan women, we are actively addressing this crisis. 50 Afghan Women in Tech will identify and support 50 women from Afghanistan to become future technology leaders. The program will enable the fellows to work directly with technology companies that are actively supporting Afghanistan.

Long-Term Impact

The two months of the program will offer an intensive learning, followed by ten months the fellow will serve as a full-time employee with partners. Throughout the year, their salary will be sustained through a collective global fundraising effort. after first year, the fellows will undergo evaluations to explore opportunities for permanent employment. The impact is to provide job security, establish a reliable source income, and facilitate sustained personal, professional growth.
