We are overjoyed to announce that we have successfully raised the full amount needed to proceed with the cochlear implant surgery for Hilma, our special (now 3-year-old) patient from Zimbabwe. After a long and challenging fundraising journey, we have finally reached our goal, and her surgery was scheduled for 3 March 2025, which coincidentally falls on World Hearing Day.
This achievement is a testament to the generosity, support, and commitment of our donors, partners, and the entire community who have rallied behind Hilma’s cause. It is through your contributions—big and small—that we could finally give Hilma the life-changing gift of hearing.
World Hearing Day is a global event dedicated to raising awareness about hearing loss and the importance of ear and hearing care. It highlights the challenges faced by those living with hearing impairment, and it emphasizes the need for accessible hearing health services and solutions. Hilma’s surgery on this day is especially meaningful, as it celebrates the hope and possibility that hearing restoration brings to countless individuals worldwide.
Hilma is truly our special patient for World Hearing Day, and we are excited to see her take this important step toward a brighter future. The cochlear implant will provide her with the ability to hear, speak, and fully engage with the world around her—a lifelong solution that will significantly improve her quality of life.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this journey - especially through GlobalGiving. It was a long and challenging road to finally get here, but together, we have made it possible for Hilma to experience the world with sound.
We look forward to the activation session on 10 April when Hilma will hear sound through the decice for the first time. We will share the special video with you, and we will continue to keep you updated on her progress and her subsequent rehabilitation.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITY A REALITY FOR HILMA!
