Help us in transforming 2-year-old Hilma's life by supporting her journey to hearing. Hilma, from Zimbabwe, has been approved for a cochlear implant, which will enable her to hear sound for the first time. We aim to raise funds to cover the high SA costs for the surgery & follow-up care as Hilda has no other financial support. Your contribution will directly impact her development to communicate, learn, and thrive alongside her peers. Hope, joy, a brighter future filled with opportunities await!
Public health systems in Southern Africa prioritize other medical needs over hearing loss due to the expense of technology and limited availability of audiologists. Many people rely on public healthcare due to the high costs of private healthcare and medical insurance. Approximately 2% of babies are born with profound hearing loss, and many underserved, profoundly deaf children like Hilma is unable to access cochlear implants & speech therapy without financial assistance from the private sector.
We pioneered a holistic approach to improve the quality of life for deaf individuals like Hilma, bridging them to the hearing world and preventing isolation. Through sustainable partnerships,we offer a combined concept of support including audiology service, intervention, therapy, rehab, education and overall wellbeing. Our focus includes funding towards cochlear implants for people aged 10 months to 90 years with profound bilateral hearing loss, and Hilma is a beneficiary currently awaiting funds.
Our project intends to bring the following changes for Hilma: Age-appropriate speech & language development, better educational opportunities & equality, ability to hear speech without visuals, recognition of environmental sounds, sound and speech detection & understanding, ability to hear in noisy environments, increased self-esteem, social interaction &overall emotional wellbeing, improved cognition, positive family & societal dynamics, a better quality of life and a sustainable future.
