16 Days of Activism Against GBV in Zimbabwe

By Rebecca Tendai Chirenga | Executive Director/Programs Manager

16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV) is an annual commemoration of awareness and education against GBV.  Over the years Women in Communities Zimbabwe (WICO) has joined other organisations and activists to commemorate these 16 days that start on the 25th November to the 10th of December.

WICO is very active in promoting Women's Rights and the prevention of GBV.  It also received The Netherlands Embassy Gender Champion Award in 2019  for its participation in the fight against GBV.

This year our plan was to conduct awareness meetings with local women and other stakeholders and conduct awareness meetings.  The estimated budget was $1000.00 but unfortunately we were only able to raise $40.00.

This allowed us to hold a Radio show on the local radio station and discussed issues on GBV with an audience of over 5000 listeners.  The feed back and responses were very good and the message was well received.  We will continue to fight against Gender based violence as we mainstream it in our programming.

We hope to raise enough funds to conduct a more robust kind of outreach and effective campaign in 2024.
