Zimbabwe is facing humanitarian crisis with the collapse of the health system coupled with inadequate water and sanitation provision has lead to the increase in widespread diseases such as cholera. The recent outbreak has claimed the lives of over 4,000 people to date. In particular, this project will benefit women and girls, as the burden of having no access to water, falls most heavily on women.
Build 5 Elephant Pumps in Masvingo Province. The community is involved at every stage. Pump Maintenance Session trains communities to become Pump minders and Pump Mechanics – enabling them to ensure that the pumps are always fully operational.
Clean water for poor rural communities, reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases, saving 5 hours each day from collecting water. This allows children to attend school and reduces the risk of attack for women collecting water.
