Dear supporters:
We have some amazing updates to share with you all. On Duncan Tree Foundation's most recent medical mission trip to Jamaica during the week of November 13-20, 2012, we were able to coordinate successful corrective spine surgeries for six young people, all of whom have been discharged from the hospital and are on their way to recovery. While in Jamaica, we were also able to arrange for two continuing medical education lecture series in which partnering surgeons and technicians from the Scoliosis Research Society, Medtronic and Biotronic addressed approximately 200 Jamaican health care professionals.
This trip also marked a crucial advancement in the development of our long-term program objectives. We are thrilled to report that our efforts (donor contributions) have resulted in special recognition: The Scoliosis Research Society is poised to name the Duncan Tree Foundation site in Jamaica an "Endorsed Global Outreach Site".
This will be of tremendous help as we seek to address the scarcity of spine deformity surgical specialists and support staff in Jamaica. To this end, we will work with our partners at the Scoliosis Research Society, Biotronic, and Medtronic to provide training for eligible Jamaican health care practitioners.
Over the past nine months, thanks to the generous support of donors such as you, Duncan Tree along with our highly skilled medical volunteers, have given eight young people a brighter outlook and freedom from deformity. We look forward to providing hope for more Jamaican children, and to educating Jamaican health care practitioners through special training programs provided by our partners. Child by child, surgeon by surgeon, your contribution will continue to bring about change. Join us in making a difference.
