Dear Donors,
On March 30, 2012, the Duncan Tree Foundation in partnership with Medtronic Foundation supported the successful corrective surgeries of two sixteen year old teenage girls at the Kingston Public Hospital in Jamaica. The surgeries were performed by a collaborative surgical team that included specialists from Kingston Public Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery, Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine, and Biotronics.
The surgeries were successful and the two patients were discharged from hospital on April 3rd. Since then, they have been followed up by the Orthopedic Team at the Kingston Public Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Ian Neil. To date recovery has been uneventful and both girls will return to school after for the fall 2012 term. Follow up will continue for six months to 1 year.
In addition to transforming the lives of these two individuals, your support has also provided insight and training for local Jamaican surgeons through a seminar/workshop which was held at the Kingston Public Hospital. During this event, the state of Scoliosis Care in Jamaica was discussed, and lectures were given on the current practice guidelines for scoliosis care as well as recent advances in the surgical management of patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
Thank you for your financial contributions! We look forward to your continued support as we aim to meet our goal of 25 surgeries.
