Another successful fund raising event on the books! On Tuesday March 6th at the Law Offices of King & Spalding In New York City, we hosted our “4th Time is a Charm” cocktail reception to support our fourth humanitarian medical mission trip to the Philippines. It was a gathering which included some usual faces and new ones as well. In attendance were representatives from the diplomatic communities of Jamaica and the Philippines, the media, board members, advisors, volunteer doctors, nurses, and medical technicians. The evening had a packed agenda highlighting our growth, our future, and our impact in The Philippines. It was also an opportune time to celebrate some of our committed members for their on-going support and service. Five committed members received service excellence awards and Vincent HoSang, President and Chairman of Caribbean Food Delights, and the Vincent HoSang Family Foundation, was given a lifetime achievement award for his dedication and service.1

Also in attendance was Mrs. Loida Nicolas Lewis, who serves as Chair and CEO of TLC Beatrice International and is the widow of the first African-American Billionaire Reginald F. Lewis. Mrs. Lewis delivered a powerful keynote speech in front of a crowd of encouraging supporters, including the Fil-AM community to support the Duncan Tree Foundation mission. Mrs. Lewis emphasized the life-changing impact made on the young recipients of the free scoliosis surgeries and urged more involvement from the Filipino community, passionately voicing, “This is for our countrymen.”
We have worked with the Southern Philippines Medical Center since 2014 and Tim Tebow CURE Hospital since 2016, both based in Davao City, to organize our medical missions and we are hoping to eventually gather more partners on the ground, including the City government. To date, we have restored the health of close to 200 hundred patients in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and The Philippines. As we continue our outreach efforts and raise scoliosis awareness in The Philippines, more youth living with this debilitating deformity will be given a second chance at life.
Overall, the event raised over $7,000 so far, with a goal of $15,000 which will go towards expenses for our volunteer team humanitarian mission. To all of our supporters, please continue to follow Duncan Tree across all social media platforms to learn about future events and ways to get involved.
Special thanks to David McKnight of McKnight Image Lab for curating the event, the Alex Terrier Jazz trio for providing live music, Jen Furer, Makilala TV host for serving as the event emcee, and Polsky Sports and Entertainment for silent auction item donations.
