Summary

The Young Mothers Empowerment Program, YMEP will equip 250 young mothers married off early with education and vocational skills. It offers two paths: continuing academic education and skills training in TVET and STEM. The program will provide academic support, job training, and emotional counseling, helping young mothers from three marginalized areas complete their education, secure employment, and improve their well-being, ultimately empowering them to achieve their full potential.

Challenge

The Ghana Education Service Pregnancy Prevention and Re-entry Policy aims to help teenage mothers return to school, but a lack of support limits its success. These young mothers face barriers like limited job training and emotional support, leading to stress and isolation. They often live in hostile environments with unemployment, poor housing, large families, violence, substance abuse, inadequate education facilities, and a lack of recreational activities, which further hinder their progress.

Solution

The Young Mothers Empowerment program will provide two pathways: an Educational path to support young mothers in continuing their academic journey, and a Skills Training path focusing on specific 21st century TVET/NVTI (vocational) skills such as sewing, leather artworks, and computer literacy. The program will offer emotional and social support through counseling supports ,helping young mothers overcome barriers, gain employment, and achieve personal and professional growth.

Long-Term Impact

The program will create lasting impact by equipping 250 young mothers with essential education and vocational skills. This dual approach enhances their academic and professional prospects, fostering economic independence and self-sufficiency. By integrating TVET and STEM training, the program not only uplifts individuals but also strengthens the community's workforce, driving sustainable economic growth and breaking cycles of poverty, and ensuring a secured future for their children.
