Tutoring Prostituted Youth for the High School Diploma

In 2021, we tutored 2,881 hours to 93 prostituted youth in 13 States.

Since our meager beginnings, we have helped over 250 prostituted youth obtain their high school diploma.

60% of our prostituted youth were under the age of 30, 45% between 18 & 24 years old and 1 under the age of 17.

87% of our students were female, 11% male and 1% transgender. 

44% were Latino, 31% African American, 17% were Caucasian, 5% identified as Bi-Racial and 2% were Native American.

In 2021, 8 passed the high school exam and 35 passed portions (4 portions – math being the most challenging). 

Most prostituted youth who enroll in our tutoring program are referred by older prostitute programs – those serving youth 18 and over. Since a student my be at least 18 years old our tutoring program is critical to children and youth who did not graduate high school and need a 2^nd chance.

Social workers refer many of our students who are prostituted youth aging out of foster care.

From January 1 to August 20, 2021, Children of the Night Tutored 2,131 tutoring hours to 81 Prostituted Youth for their High School Diploma

            33 passed portions of the High School Equivalence (4 parts)

              6 successfully completed the High School Diploma

           48% were under 24 years of age

            71 were Female                                                                                                                                                                               9 were Male                                                                                                                                                                                   1 was Transgender 

             36 were Latino                                                                                                                                                                             26 were African American                                                                                                                                                           15 were Caucasian                                                                                                                                                                        4 were Bi-Racial

Marian became involved in prostitution when she was 15 years old.  

She ran away from a county group home and met a person who introduced her to prostitution. 

At the age of 20, she reached out to Children of the Night to enroll in our ZOOM one on one tutoring program for the High School Diploma. 

A criminal justice victim's service specialist had suggested Marian call Children of the Night to enroll in our online tutoring.

Marian began tutoring for her high school diploma on

June 21, 2021, and after 10 (1 hour) sessions of tutoring she passed the test for the GED – California’s State High School Diploma on July 30^th, 2021.

Marian is pregnant and is due this month. Her goal was to complete her high school diploma so she can enroll in a cosmetology program.
