Southern Oregon is being scorched by wildfires. WCK is on the ground to provide meals to families and first responders affected. We have provided more than 10,500 meals in a number of days and will continue as long as we are needed and have the resources to do so.
Fires across the west coast, including in the state of Oregon, have devastated entire communities, with one resident describing the widespread damage as a bomb site. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, more than 1 million acres burnt, and Oregon now has air quality that is among the worst in the world.
WCK has set up a relief kitchen in Portland to prepare around 2,000 meals a day to the main sites hosting evacuees from the city of Estacada and other communities affected by the Beachie Creek and Riverside fires. Additionally, WCK has activated a local restaurant to prepare meals for communities south of Portland-in Medford and Ashland. WCK has also served meals to first responders battling the blazes. We have delivered meals to the Molalla Fire Department and evacuated families in Gladstone.
Although some evacuation orders are being lifted and fire crews are beginning to contain some of the wildfires, many evacuees are still in need of a fresh meal- some having lost their homes and livelihoods. WCK will continue to provide meals for as long as we are needed. Your donation today will help us serve fresh meals to families and first responders affected by the wildfires in Oregon. Thank you for your support!
