This project empowers community members to initiate town beautification and improvement jobs. They are identified and completed by community members in return for much needed food and supplies.
The Punta de Mita community of Nayarit is a unique community with unique challenges. The members of this community rely heavily on the tourism & fishing industries to survive. With decreasing numbers in local tourism, unemployment has increased. Community members are living on very low wages, trying to provide for entire families. With very little new work opportunities locally, deeper problems arise; no income for basic living supplies.
Job opportunities are paired with community needs. The donations recieved through this program will be shared with those in need, who are, at the same time participating in bettering their own community.
We will empower families and individuals to make decisions about their own community while providing them with an incentive to work towards change. The decision makers are peers of the participants, members of the same community.
