Latest News!!

Dr. Yacoobi was honored to receive the 2015 WISE Prize for Education. A prestigious award given to those who are tireless advocates for the right to education. “I know from my life that education gives power, status and opportunity. I see women who are smart, intelligent but did not have opportunity so I gave them that. It is education and not guns that can transform society and give us a peaceful tomorrow. “ Sakena

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to share some great news! GlobalGiving has chosen to feature our project, Afghan Institute of Learning Empowers Afghan Women, as part of their GlobalGiving Global Goals initiative. In celebration of the launch of the new Sustainable Development Goals at UN Week, GlobalGiving is highlighting three projects working to achieve each new goal.

They are featuring our project because we’re one of their highest-ranked partners that’s committed to learning and effectiveness.  Hopefully this means more exposure for our organization to a broader network individual, corporate, and institutional supporters looking for a meaningful way to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Please help us spread the word! Check it out here, where we’re featured under Goal 5: GlobalGiving Global Goals initiative.

Education is transformative. The women and girls who come to AIL Learning Centers grow and develop in knowledge, thinking skills and self- confidence. They realize they are capable and seek more opportunity to learn and grow. This story shows this transformative effect.

I am Zahra and I am 22 years old and one of the sewing class students. Here at the center I have learned sewing in six months and now I am working outside of the center in my own business. Before coming here, we were totally broke and disappointed since we all had no job and no income in the family whatsoever. I couldn’t do anything, there was nothing that I could do. After I heard about this center, I came and started literacy and sewing. I had never been to school before and never did sewing and it was a big challenge and opportunity for me. After a while at the literacy classes, I learned how to read and write and then I started studying on my own.  I started sewing classes and it took me a while till I learned the skills and started working seriously. Now besides working at the center, I am also working at home, sewing and I am almost the only bread winner of home!”

So far in 2015, there have been 14,309 females taking classes in AIL Learning Centers in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Happy Giving Tuesday! and thank you for your support!
