Homelessness is a growing reality in Spain, especially among women. Located in Madrid, the Opportunity Home offers temporary accommodation for up to 8 women at risk of socio-residential exclusion. We seek to promote their empowerment with a rights perspective, addressing their physical, mental, and emotional health to give them a new chance at life.
It is estimated that 19% of people living on the streets in Spain are women, and they are often more exposed to violence and assaults. The population we work with usually arrives with health problems, after experiencing violence, or are applying for international protection, with little or no family support or employment. That's why it's urgent to provide both housing and specialized support. This helps stabilize them personally, emotionally, and socially, helping them move forward.
Your support helps us provide shelter, promote self-esteem and autonomy, and improve the health and wellbeing of the women we serve. We also seek to improve eating, sports and healthy habits, and to carry out medical follow-up through the corresponding controls. We guide them through administrative and documentation processes, support income generation, and help them build savings and manage their personal finances.
This project is part of a long-term social reintegration process, since it works comprehensively to resolve not only the housing and documentation situation, but also seeks to empower the participants through academic training, possible insertion work, counting on constant accompaniment, to promote their autonomy. The impact is also not only on them but also indirectly on their families, their social circles and the community in general.
