Dear friends and sponsors of Wikimapa:
Our work at Complexo da Penha community is almost ending. The official closure is set to next month. The wikireporters team is still registering POIs and until now more than 300 Points of Interest as hospitals, schools, stores, squares, public sports courts, cultural activities spots and other NGOs are already featured on wikimapa.
Wikireporter Lincoln Cerqueira, aged 16 says that wikimapa is already known by the community residents and highlights that they are the ones who ask to have their stores added on wikimapa: “I have plenty of friends that owns shops and stores here at Penha Community that always ask me when will I be able to go in their shops to get all needed information and tag them on Wikimapa”.
Another great news and this one is related to wikimapa system is that we´ve reached 5,000 registered Points of Interest!
As part of our expansion plan soon Wikimapa project will be executed on six new low-income communities from Rio and São Paulo being them Rocinha, Mangueira, São João de Merit, Capao Redondo (São Paulo) besides second stage mapping activities at Cidade de Deus (City of God) and Maré, already benefited on pilot stage. Soon Rede Jovem and Wikimapa team will bring a lot of fresh and big news! Stay tuned!
