As summer unfolds, it's essential to remember that the new school year is approaching. The Family Giving Tree is working hard to ensure students in the Bay Area have the necessary backpacks and supplies, but we need your help!
Many students lack access to basic school supplies, which can make learning more difficult and can impact their confidence. By offering these essential tools, we can make a positive difference and help them feel more ready to succeed.
For 30 years, the Family Giving Tree has promoted educational equity, and our supporters play a vital role in this effort. By donating backpacks filled with essential supplies, you ensure that caregivers can send their children to school with excitement and a sense of learning.
Through partnerships with vendors, we obtain supplies at reduced prices, thereby maximizing the impact of donations. Your support makes a difference! Join us in empowering students with the resources they need to succeed by making a donation today!

Promoting Educational Equity in the Bay Area
By Kim Foster | Development Associate

Every year, the cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area keeps increasing, which continues to be a challenge for many of our neighbors. Over 46% of people in the Bay Area are considered low or very low-income. With families' finances stretched thin for essentials like housing and groceries, there's little left in their budgets for critical items like a backpack filled with school supplies for their children. At Family Giving Tree, we believe that every student should be equipped with the educational resources they need for their first day of school.
Since 1995, Family Giving Tree has been committed to supporting educational equity by providing backpacks filled with must-have school supplies, helping families ensure their kids start the school year excited and ready to learn.
Thanks to our solid partnerships with multiple vendors, we secure lower-priced backpacks and supplies, enhancing the value of our donors' contributions. When students arrive at school with the required supplies, they are ready to learn! A backpack filled with essential items not only prepares a student for school, it symbolizes the promising opportunities that await, and alleviates some financial stress for caregivers. Could you donate today to support our students?

Support for Educational Equity for Bay Area
By Angela Mazza | Director of Development
Summary
Students from low-income households often lack basic school supplies because their families can not afford them. Not having these supplies is a key barrier to learning new skills and keeping up with class and homework. It also destroys confidence and self-esteem as learning becomes a struggle instead of an opportunity to explore and grow. Help students start school knowing they are prepared by supplying the tools they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

In the 11 counties Family Giving Tree serves, 46% of families are classified as low-or very low-income. These families struggle to provide the supplies their children need in the classroom. Their primary financial concerns are food, housing, and clothing. Starting school without supplies seriously impacts learning and can quickly set students behind their peers, impacting their ability to learn successfully and succeed in the years to come.
Solution
When students are prepared for school with the materials they need to succeed in the classroom, it positively impacts their learning, provides confidence, and supports self-esteem. It gives them hope for the future and gives their families one less thing to worry about.
Long-Term Impact
Education is a key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Sending children to school prepared with backpacks and supplies will equip tomorrow's workforce with the skills they need to succeed.
