With the supply of everyday items becoming less consistently available, the prices per item have increased. And it’s not just eggs. Gas per gallon, fresh produce, and rent have increased prices.

When these essential items become more expensive, budgets are strained even further. This is where the backpacks come in. The choice seems impossible when the decision between backpacks and school supplies is weighed against food, gas, and rent.

Family Giving Tree recognizes how equally important backpacks and school supplies are to Bay Area children as food and housing, and the financial burden that is alleviated when those things are provided for. When kids feel prepared to learn, their confidence soars and sparks a passion for learning. This year our Back-to-School Drive hopes to provide backpacks filled with grade-appropriate supplies to 28,000 Bay Area students. Your support will help them rise to new academic heights!

In the shadow of the successes in Silicon Valley, we see a different reality. One in three children lives below the poverty line in California, with over 258,000 residing in the Bay Area alone. Coupled with the recent layoffs and unemployment statistics, the loss of income takes a tremendous toll on families struggling to pay rent and buy groceries or gas.

Now more than ever, Family Giving Tree’s Back-to-School Drive provides a critical solution to students. Essential school supplies provide them with what they need to do homework and participate in class. It also provides confidence in knowing they have what they need to succeed.
