Challenge

In the experience of Tsunamai in 2006 and recent cyclones' hit, coastal people were severely affected and they now are realizing that it could be averted if Mangrove existed there. Because the disaster was prevented from its severe destruction where it existed. Practically it is proved. Further lack of awareness among publics on importance and impact of mangroves existing and new planting. Rural people are cutting and using as firewood. This is big issue in the area.

Solution

It will maintain coastal eco-system with safe breeding and habitation of fishes, birds, clams, mollusks and specie. One hectare mangroves absorb 32 metric tons of CO2 and prevent from Tsunami and cyclone disasters destruction. The existing mangroves are cut for firewood as they are lack of knowledge on importance among public. ROSI Foundation is promoting motivation among farmers, students and coastal communities on existing mangroves conservation at Nagapattinam district.
