Japan Platform (JPF) has mobilized the "Emergency Response to the Western Japan Floods" in response to the record-breaking torrential rain which began to fall on July 5 and has caused significant and widespread flood damage in Western Japan. We arrived on the ground on July 8 and have been conducting assessments and delivering assistance to better provide relief in accordance with the needs on the ground.
There are still many people who have been evacuated staying at shelters and the JPF team is supporting these evacuees. According to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, over 200 people died from this disaster, and as of 21 July 2018, 4,496 people have been displaced: Hiroshima (1,266), Okayama (2,751), Ehime (402), and another 9 prefectures (77).
In coordination with parties concerned and JPF member NGOs, JPF will promptly implement emergency relief efforts that meet the needs of affected communities.
JPF aims to return the evacuees livelihoods to normal, and support their lives and that of their families. To implement an effective assistance that meets the needs, JPF will also coordinate with the affected community, and convey its experience in emergency response.
