Tejiendo redes: cuidar, crecer y derribar muros
Como parte de nuestro compromiso permanente con las personas que viven con demencia y con quienes las cuidan, en este periodo hemos avanzado en tres frentes que se refuerzan mutuamente: el fortalecimiento de nuestra comunidad de apoyo, el crecimiento de nuestro equipo y la preparación para seguir derribando las barreras que rodean a las demencias.
Una red que crece
Uno de los pasos más significativos de este periodo fue el lanzamiento de la Red de Apoyo Alzheimer, una comunidad virtual a través de la cual difundimos información gratuita sobre los grupos de apoyo que organiza Alzheimer México I.A.P., así como los que ofrecen las instituciones miembro de la Federación Mexicana de Alzheimer (FEDMA). Esta iniciativa nace de una convicción profunda: nadie debería enfrentar la demencia sin saber que existe una comunidad dispuesta a acompañarle.
La Red de Apoyo Alzheimer se convierte así en un puente accesible para familias que se encuentran en los primeros momentos de confusión tras un diagnóstico, para cuidadores que llevan años cargando solos y para todas las personas que simplemente necesitan saber que no están solas.
Crecer para cuidar mejor
Durante este periodo también ampliamos nuestro equipo de trabajo. Este crecimiento no es un dato administrativo — es una decisión de fondo. Significa más presencia, más escucha, más capacidad para ofrecer una atención cada vez más centrada en la persona: más humana, más profesional y más cercana a las necesidades reales de quienes atendemos.
Asimismo, ampliamos nuestras herramientas de acompañamiento para familias cuidadoras, incorporando orientaciones gerontológicas y talleres de autocuidado. Porque un cuidador también es una persona. Porque cuidar sin descuidarse no es un lujo — es una necesidad, y atenderla es parte central de nuestro modelo.
Presentes donde se nos necesita
Estuvimos presentes en el Festival del Adulto Mayor, donde ofrecimos de forma completamente gratuita evaluaciones físicas, nutricionales, gerontológicas, de signos vitales y de factores de riesgo modificables. Cientos de personas tuvieron acceso a información y atención que de otra manera no habrían recibido ese día.
También participamos en el Congreso de la Federación Mexicana de Alzheimer, un espacio de encuentro con profesionales, instituciones y familias de todo el país, donde seguimos aprendiendo, compartiendo y construyendo los vínculos que hacen más fuerte a toda la red de atención a las demencias en México.
Una historia que nos impulsó
En uno de nuestros talleres de autocuidado para cuidadores, una mujer que lleva cuatro años cuidando a su madre con demencia tomó la palabra al final de la sesión. Dijo algo que no olvidamos: "Nadie me había dicho antes que yo también importaba en este proceso."
Esa frase resume todo. El cuidador invisible, el que posterga sus propias necesidades, el que asume que su bienestar es secundario. Nuestro trabajo es también recordarle que no lo es. Que cuidar bien empieza por cuidarse.
Lo que viene
Nos estamos preparando para Alzheimer Aprende y Actúa 2026, nuestro evento anual de difusión y concientización que este año llevará por título "Derribando los muros de la demencia". Hablaremos sobre las barreras — culturales, emocionales, sociales — que impiden que las personas lleguen a un diagnóstico correcto, adecuado y a tiempo. Porque el primer muro que hay que derribar es el del miedo, y para eso hace falta información, comunidad y valentía.
Seguiremos construyendo esa comunidad, un paso a la vez, junto a todas las personas que, como tú, deciden que nadie debería enfrentar el olvido solo.

Weaving Networks: Caring, Growing, and Breaking Down Walls
As part of our ongoing commitment to people living with dementia and those who care for them, this period has been marked by progress on three interconnected fronts: strengthening our support community, growing our team, and preparing to continue breaking down the barriers that surround dementia.
A Growing Network
One of the most significant steps of this period was the launch of the Alzheimer Support Network, a virtual community through which we share free information about support groups organized by Alzheimer México I.A.P., as well as those offered by member institutions of the Mexican Alzheimer Federation (FEDMA). This initiative is rooted in a deep conviction: no one should face dementia without knowing that a community is ready to walk alongside them.
The Alzheimer Support Network becomes an accessible bridge for families navigating the first moments of confusion after a diagnosis, for caregivers who have been carrying the weight alone for years, and for all those who simply need to know they are not alone.
Growing to Care Better
During this period, we also expanded our team. This is not merely an administrative update — it is a meaningful decision. It means more presence, more listening, and a greater capacity to offer care that is increasingly person-centered: more human, more professional, and more closely attuned to the real needs of those we serve.
We also broadened our support tools for family caregivers, introducing gerontological guidance and self-care workshops. Because a caregiver is also a person. Because caring without neglecting oneself is not a luxury — it is a necessity, and addressing it is a central part of our model.
Present Where We Are Needed
We participated in the Festival del Adulto Mayor, where we offered completely free physical, nutritional, and gerontological assessments, as well as vital signs checks and modifiable risk factor screenings. Hundreds of people accessed information and care they might not otherwise have received that day.
We also attended the Mexican Alzheimer Federation Congress, a gathering of professionals, institutions, and families from across the country, where we continued learning, sharing knowledge, and strengthening the connections that make the entire dementia care network in Mexico stronger.
A Story That Moved Us
At one of our caregiver self-care workshops, a woman who has been caring for her mother with dementia for four years spoke up at the end of the session. She said something we have not forgotten: "No one had ever told me before that I also mattered in this process."
That sentence says it all. The invisible caregiver — the one who postpones their own needs, who assumes their wellbeing is secondary. Our work is also to remind them that it is not. That caring well begins with caring for oneself.
What's Next
We are preparing for Alzheimer Aprende y Actúa 2026, our annual awareness and outreach event, which this year will be titled "Breaking Down the Walls of Dementia." We will address the cultural, emotional, and social barriers that prevent people from reaching a correct, appropriate, and timely diagnosis. Because the first wall to break down is fear — and that requires information, community, and courage.
We will keep building that community, one step at a time, alongside all the people who, like you, believe that no one should face the forgetting alone.
