Stories of Connection: Weaving Memories in Action
In the past months, Weaving Memories: A New Vision for Dementia has begun to take root in communities across Mexico. Alzheimer México, I.A.P., with over 20 years of experience, has continued its mission of creating a more inclusive, informed, and compassionate society for people living with dementia and their caregivers.
What We’ve Done
During this period, we launched key actions that bring our vision to life:
A Story of Impact
One of our most moving moments came from Julia, a 74-year-old man who attended a cognitive evaluation event with his daughter. For years, she had been forgetting names and getting lost in his own neighborhood. Her family thought it was just “part of aging.” After a timely diagnosis and referral, she is now receiving weekly occupational therapy and her family has joined a support group. Her daughter told us:
“For the first time, we feel like we’re not alone in this.”
Challenges & Lessons
We faced resistance in communities where dementia is still seen as a taboo or “natural” part of aging. However, these same places showed the greatest transformation once people were empowered with knowledge and empathy.
What’s Next
Your support is helping us not only provide care, but change the culture around dementia in Mexico. Together, we are weaving a stronger, more compassionate social fabric—one memory, one connection at a time.
