There are many schools in rural Uganda and Kenya who have no access to clean water. When children return to school, they will return to overcrowded classrooms with no handwashing stations. These schools will become breeding grounds for COVID 19. We will drill 10 low cost deep water boreholes using the Village Drill in the rural areas of Uganda and Kenya and install handwashing stations at each site. Each borehole (well) provides water for 1,000 people.
Scarce and contaminated water is a huge issue in rural Uganda and Kenya. without clean water or hand washing stations the spread of COVID 19 will be rampant. The schools cannot afford to pay $10,000 - $15,000 for a borehole. Hand dug wells often dry up in the dry season and can be easily contaminated.
Low cost boreholes using the Village Drill, an innovative human powered drill. We will drill 10 deep water boreholes in the rural areas of Uganda and Kenya and install handwashing stations at each site. Results: Each borehole will provide clean water and a handwashing station to hundreds of children and their families. Children will be taught the importance of washing their hands to stop the spread of disease.
Impacts: #1- 10,000 people will gain access to clean water. #2 - School children will have a handwashing station at their school. #3 - Completed wells will be in aquifers and will not dry up during the rainy season. #4 - Girls will be able to attend school during menses #5 With an abundance of water, opportunities are created for new businesses
