Santi the Guard Dog

By Lee Koelzer | Director

This is Santi. He is the newest addition to our family at Peace Demonstration Farm. His hobbies include chewing on table legs, chasing his tail, playing with the children, and barking at the turkeys. He enjoys long naps on the sofa and being cuddled and carried around like a baby.

Our local butcher provides us with free dog bones daily, and we throw some fruits and vegetables his direction as a 'Thank You.' Santi's life is clearly NOT difficult.

Santi was given to us by Jaja Margaret- one of the members of Lubanga Twero Women's Group in Jinja. Her grandsons had already named him Santana, which we shortened to Santi.

When we first brought him back to the farm, the workers were worried that someone may like him and decide to take him. So to 'protect' him they dyed him red. Similar to how they dye baby chickens hot pink and neon green for similar reasons. Explaining that to the vet when we went for vaccinations was entertaining, but we all had a good laugh and Santi was happy as can be.
