The Water Rangers Program has continued to expand its reach and impact, supporting communities across the country in responding to water contamination linked to industrial livestock operations. Throughout 2025, the team led 24 trainings for 203 participants in 11 states, compared to 20 trainings, 114 participants, and 9 states in 2024. Recent trainings include a site-specific training for Richland County, North Dakota; a general and site-specific training with University of Colorado students that combined foundational instruction with hands-on field experience; a Michigan training on the updated general NPDES CAFO permit, and an in-person training in Virginia.
The team also strengthened collaborations with academic institutions, continuing its partnership. The team also furthered engagement with Tribal Nations, through support from Good Sky Guidance.
Now, the team is focused on finalizing strategic planning for 2026 to guide the program’s direction this year. This planning effort builds on lessons learned from the 2025 program review and reflects the team’s commitment to strengthening long-term impact. The plan focuses on improving volunteer communication and infrastructure, expanding outreach to Tribal Nations and other underrepresented communities, and strengthening internal collaboration across SRAP programs. It outlines concrete goals around training, partnerships, volunteer engagement, and impact measurement to grow a more connected and effective national network of community water monitors.
