Good News for the New Year

Happy New Year from Kenya Rainwater Association to you friends and partners! 2014 was a great year and that's because you were part of it and we are delighted to know that you are still with us even in this New Year as we aspire to touch, transform and impact more livelihoods.

We are so excited about 2015 because we are hopeful that this year we will see Matuiku Primary school project come to a close. Last year i mentioned that we were going to hold a planning meeting with the school management to see how the funds that you had raised will be utilized and for which activities. Howeverthe meeting was haulted after we received some good news of a possible match funding with a US based organization in 2015! This means that if this funding comes through we will be able to add what they give to your donations to enable us complete Matuiku Primary school project fully. This is great news and we hope that it materialises soon--We will keep you posted.

In 2014 KRA implemented WASH projects in 15 rural primary schools all thanks to our devout patners who have been supporting our initiatives over the years. These schools now have clean drinking water, handwashing facilities and a vegetable garden for vegetable production. The impact has been remarkable both for teh children and the entire community with these schools now becoming a centre of attraction for neighbouring schools. Perfomance has greatly improved and enrolment has equally increased as parents transfer their children to schools that seem to have better facilities. We have also seen such initiatives become a motivation factor for the school community to raise their community contributions because each school is now competing to become among the best in terms of water and sanitation.

As we kick off 2015 we look forward to growing these numbers and expanding our reach even to Secondary schools because the need is very great. We would like to thank you all for your continued support in the past years and we hope to continue this patnership in 2015 and beyond.

Thanks to You...We Are Getting There!

When it comes to water it is often said that every drop counts and when it comes to you our partners we say that every donation counts!

Greetings from Kenya Rainwater Association,

It’s that time of the year again when we get to share our project updates with you and as always we are pleased to have the opportunity to write to you on the progress and status of Matuiku Primary School Water and Sanitation project. From our previous update, you are aware that we have been exploring more fundraising opportunities so that we can bring the last phase of this project to a successful completion. This is still on-going and we have been keen to submit and place fundraising calls to a few promising donors whenever we get an opportunity to and we hope that we will get more funding towards this project soon.

However, your efforts cannot go unnoticed and at this point, KRA would like to sincerely thank you for the unwavering support that you have shown since this project started to date. Your donations have been streaming in and we are happy to report that since last year to this year we have received about 690$. This money will go towards the purchase of the farm pond lining material that we call a dam liner. The liner is important in preventing water seepage once the water has been harvested and stored into the farm pond.

For starters, we plan to hold a meeting with the head teacher of Matuiku Primary school to discuss how to effectively utilise the funds and hopefully plan for the excavation process of the farm pond. KRA has been encouraging community participation in the implementation of all its projects and especially parent involvement with an aim of instilling communal ownership of the project. We are optimistic that with the help of the community and the teachers we will be able to formulate a way forward so that the dream of making Matuiku Primary school a centre for excellence can be realised.

As it is now, the children are still enjoying the sanitation and water tank facilities and they remain eternally grateful to you for ensuring that they have clean water flowing from their taps and proper and hygienic sanitation facilities. Learning has never been more easy and fun and what you have given this year can only make things even better for these children!

We look forward to the next update when we will let you know the outcome of the meeting and how much progress has been made going forward.

Thank You for Your Kind Donations!

Your donations always puts a smile on our faces!

Dear Globalgiving Partners,

Trust this update finds you well! We recently received an email from the Globalgiving team informing us that £115.41 had been disbursed to our account and on behalf of Matuiku Primary School we sincerely thank each and every one of for every donation made towards this initiative.

Although we still have a long way to go, your donations will contribute alot in helping us complete the last phase of this project. The children of Matuiku Primary school are currently on holiday but I am sure that as soon as they learn about the news they will be ecstatic!

As an organization, we understand the need for every child to have access to clean water; proper sanitation facilities and to enjoy a well balanced diet. In all the schools that we have introduced the farmpond technology for drip irrigation of vegetables, we have seen them go ahead and introduce a feeding programme for their children.

As of now, Matuiku children are forced to carry lunch to school every day..if any and parents sometimes are not able to afford this especially during the dry period when there is nothing even in their farms to feed their children. For this reason, we at Kenya rainwater Association are also trying to mobilize funds on our end in order to finish this project. We hope that by the end of the year Matuiku Primary School children will not only be water and sanitation secure but also food secure!
