Hamlet 3 in Tan Long Commune, Tay Ninh Province, is a small corner of the countryside where life is still marked by many hardships. Families live among fields, canals, and dirt roads that often disappear under the rain. For years, the lack of clean water has been one of their deepest worries. Most low-income households have had no choice but to cook, bathe, and wash with river water, rainwater, or canal water though everyone knows these sources are becoming more polluted each year. For families with young children, this worry cuts even deeper, as unsafe water threatens both their health and their future.
The hamlet is home to 1,891 people, including 751 students across all school levels. Yet every one of them has had to depend on this unstable and unsafe water supply. The local authorities once tried drilling wells, but limited funding meant the system could never be completed - there were no water tanks, no pipelines, no pumps. Even though the community longed for a stable source of clean water, the remaining costs were simply beyond their reach.
In the middle of these challenges, the project to build a clean-water well system became a true ray of hope. What touched everyone most at the very beginning was the unity of the residents. One family even volunteered to donate part of their land for the well of a gesture of generosity and wholehearted trust in the collective effort.
Over the course of 60 days, the project took shape thanks to the close collaboration between the contractor, Hoc Mon Social Protection Centre (Ceporer Hoc Mon), and the local authorities. Every detail, from the water tank and the concrete foundation to the pipelines and the pump, was carefully installed. Each day, residents would gather to watch the progress, their voices filled with anticipation:
- “When will we finally have clean water?”
- “Is the well strong enough?”
- “How long until water reaches my home?”
On September 4, 2025, the system was officially completed and handed over to the community. When the first stream of water flowed clear, steady, and full of promise, everyone celebrated as if a precious gift had arrived in their small neighborhood.
For Mrs.D.T.D, the joy was simple but profound: “Now we finally have clean water. These days, the water has been running so strongly, I’m truly happy. Thank you to everyone who cared for us and supported us.” Mrs. P.T.K.P, Head of Hamlet 3, shared: “This is a blessing for the entire hamlet. For years, people struggled with faraway wells and frequent breakdowns. Now, clean water reaches every household.”
This well is far more than a piece of infrastructure. It is a symbol of connection of the community’s care for one another, the dedication of the local authorities, and the compassionate support of a social organization. Though the project is modest in scale, its impact is changing life. Without the daily fear of unsafe water, families can live with greater peace of mind, reduce health risks, and feel empowered to build a better future.
The story of Hamlet 3 reminds us of a simple truth: when a community is empowered and people stand together, even the hardest challenges can be overcome. And the clean water flowing today will continue to carry hope, hope for brighter days, better health, and a more secure life for every family of Tan Long Commune.
