Meet Christine. She is just 20 years old but has great plans for her future. She hails from war-torn Northern Uganda where she lost her father and numerous relatives to the violence. Her mother brought Christine and her younger brother to the safety of Kampala. Although in Kampala, they didn't face the life-threatening occurrences of the North, they faced relentless poverty and urban strife. Nonetheless, Christine struggled to complete secondary four. She had hoped to pursue nursing, however, chemistry stumped her.
Within the Acholi Quarter, Christine found role models in other graduates of Project Have Hope's tailoring program and decided to follow in their footsteps. She is now undertaking a two year course to gain a certificate in fashion designing and tailoring. "My life has not been easy. My mother struggles to support my brother and I," remarks Christine. "But I know that education is the key to my future."
A donation of just $25 provides tuition for one term and gives a young woman the power to build her own future.
