With an education only through the equivalent of fourth grade, Margaret did not know how she would care for her four children when her husband abandoned the family in 2012.
She had been earning money by braiding women’s hair, but as the sole provider, that was not enough. Through a grant from Project Have Hope, Margaret studied tailoring and received a loan to buy a sewing machine, materials and set up shop. She currently rents a shop on the main shopping strip of the Quarter where she can easily be reached by customers.
Besides the income Margaret earns, she is grateful for the many friendships tailoring has created for her. She struggles to find more work so that her business can grow and her children can continue their education. “If my children have a good education, they will not suffer like me,” Margaret quietly concludes.
A donation of just $25 provides tuition for one term and gives a woman the power to build her own future and secure a brighter future for her children.
