On a recent visit to the AICM VTC in Kabale trustees joined with students to redecorate and add guttering and drainage to a boys boarding hostel. All gained much from joining together in this enterprise and the students received certificates as proof of a task well done, which will be a useful addition to their CVs. It is hoped the example set will encourage staff and students to undertake other similar tasks using their own resources.Timothy, Executive Director of AICM and the admin staff of the VTC are working hard to achieve accreditation from Kyambogo university, Kampala, which will enhance the reputation of the college. Funds are needed to rebuild the motor maintenance workshop, and books are needed for the college library. The college lacks a decent sports field. A start has been made on the library by the visiting trustees who collected and donated several books, and are currently collecting more to be shipped out later this year. Students are currently sitting exams and it is hoped many will successfully graduate from their courses in July.Trustees talked to many students and joined in several lessons. They also led two sports sessions, introducing them to cricket, which was a great success. So many face huge problems in staying the course at college. For many, often from large extended families, or orphans, fees are a problem, and even if fees are paid, equipment for their courses is a problem .We found that carpentry was severely hampered by lack of quality timber, girls on tailoring and dress making courses lacked sufficient material, cottons, scissors, rulers and cookery classes could not always function properly due to lack of ingredients. The skills and qualifications on offer are life changing. Please help these needy students to become dignified, worthy contributors to their communities.
