Summary

UWC Costa Rica is a high school like no other! We believe in the power of innovative education to drive positive social transformation. We bring together an intentionally diverse community of 194 students from 125+ nationalities, 82% of whom receive scholarship support. Grounded in experiential education, our students live, dream, and learn together. They are empowered to look beyond prejudice and labels and instead connect through their shared humanity to address local and global challenges.

Challenge

Our world today is facing some of the biggest challenges in the history of humankind: the climate crisis, social inequities, and wars. And instead of coming together to solve them, we seem to be more divided than ever as facts and even truth itself have become polarized and politicized. Even when technology has given us the tools to be more connected than ever, we keep creating new ways to separate "us" from "them." Some days it is difficult to keep hope.

Solution

Living in an intentionally diverse community, our students develop empathy, critical thinking, intercultural communication, problem-solving, and conflict transformation skills while putting them into practice every day. UWC Costa Rica is a laboratory where our students' idealism is nurtured by a holistic educational model that empowers them to create solutions and turn ideas into action, starting with our campus community and then scaling outwards.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of UWC Costa Rica lives in our 1,182 alumni and our 194 students and the thousands of people they inspire. Resilient global citizens who are comfortable stepping outside their comfort zones to build bridges through empathy, community, respect, and integrity. Furthermore, we are working to share our transformative educational model with hundreds of students and educators in Costa Rica, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the world to scale our impact. Will you join us?
