Project Title:
Urgent Heart Surgeries for Vulnerable Children in Nigeria.
Project Summary:
Thousands of children in Nigeria are suffering from life-threatening heart conditions but cannot afford surgery. This project provides urgent cardiac surgeries, medical care, and recovery support for vulnerable children from low-income families. With donor support, we aim to save lives and give these children a second chance at life.
Problem Statement:
In Nigeria, congenital heart disease is a major cause of child mortality, yet access to life-saving surgery is extremely limited. Many families live below the poverty line and cannot afford the high cost of cardiac procedures, which range between $5,000 and $15,000.
Due to scarce specialized healthcare facilities and financial barriers:
Children are diagnosed late or not at all
Many die while waiting for treatment.
Families are pushed into extreme financial hardship
Without urgent intervention, these children face preventable death despite having treatable conditions.
Project Goal:
To reduce preventable deaths among vulnerable children in Nigeria by providing access to life-saving heart surgeries and medical support.
Project Objectives:
Sponsor 20–30 children annually for heart surgery.
Provide diagnostic screening and early detection
Support pre- and post-operative care
Raise awareness about congenital heart diseases.
Expected Results:
Successful heart surgeries for vulnerable children
Improved survival rates and quality of life.
Increased awareness and early diagnosis
Reduced financial burden on affected families.
Target Population:
Children aged 0–18 years with heart defects
Low-income and vulnerable families
Underserved communities
Budget:
Total Estimated Budget: $90,000 (for 10 children annually)
Surgery per child: $7,000
Diagnostics & tests: $500
Medication & post-op care: $1,000
Logistics & coordination: $500
Total per child: $9,000
Sustainability:
We will sustain this project by:
Building long-term donor relationships
Partnering with hospitals and medical volunteers.
Engaging corporate sponsors and philanthropists.
Running continuous awareness and fundraising campaigns.
Why This Project is Important:
Every child deserves a chance to live. A simple surgery can mean the difference between life and death. By supporting this project, donors directly help save children who would otherwise not survive due to financial barriers.
Sample Beneficiary Story :
Baby Jesse an 18 month-old boy, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect causing severe breathing difficulty and poor growth. His parents, small-scale traders, could not afford the surgery needed to save his life.
Through this project, Jesse will receive life-saving heart surgery and post-operative care. His story represents thousands of children in Nigeria who urgently need help.
Call to Action:
Your donation can save a child’s life. With your support, we can provide urgent heart surgeries and give vulnerable children a chance to grow, thrive, and live healthy lives.
