Dear GlobalGiving Team,
We sincerely want to thank GlobalGiving for giving our Foundation the opportunity to be seen and heard. Your platform has given us visibility that we could not easily achieve on our own, and your moral support means a lot to us. For us, being able to share the stories of these children with a wider community gives us hope that someone, somewhere, will be willing to help.
Our work is focused on helping vulnerable children in Nigeria who are living with serious heart conditions and urgently need surgery. These are children whose families often cannot afford the cost of treatment, even when they know their child may not survive without it.
Unfortunately, the reality has been very difficult.
The economic situation has affected many of our activities. The rising cost of medical care, travel, accommodation, feeding, and other basic needs has made it increasingly difficult for us to support as many children as we would like. We have several children currently waiting and families reaching out to us for help, but our resources are simply not enough to respond to all of them.
Our Current Report
Despite the number of children on our waiting list, only one case has been taken up between February and August.
At the moment, Jesse Obasi, one of the children we are supporting, is in India receiving the heart surgery he desperately needs. We are grateful that we have been able to get Jesse this far, but we are also very aware that there are other children still waiting.
Behind every name on our waiting list is a child.
A child who wants to play.
A child whose parents are hoping to see them grow up.
A family waiting and praying for a chance that they may not be able to afford on their own.
This is what makes the situation especially difficult for us. We know there are children who need our help, but sometimes knowing that we cannot immediately help them is heartbreaking.
We Need More Support
We are therefore appealing for more visibility and support for this cause.
We would be grateful if GlobalGiving could help us spread more information about the work we are doing, so that more people, organisations, philanthropists, companies, and potential sponsors can learn about these children and the urgent need for heart surgeries.
We are not asking for people to simply support a campaign. We are asking them to help us give children a chance at life.
With the right sponsors and donors, we can take more children off our waiting list and give them access to the medical care they urgently need.
Even when one child receives surgery, there are still others waiting behind them.
We know that the financial situation is difficult for many people at the moment, and we understand that everyone is facing their own challenges. But any support, no matter how small, can become part of something much bigger when people come together.
We are deeply grateful to GlobalGiving for the visibility, encouragement, and moral support you have already given us. We hope that, together, we can reach more people and create more opportunities to save these children's lives.
Jesse is one child. But there are many more waiting.
We need partners, sponsors, and compassionate people to stand with us so that the next child does not have to wait too long.
Thank you for believing in the work we are doing and for giving us a platform to tell these stories.
With gratitude,
Joan Ariemu.
