Dear Donor,
Thank you for helping Development Alert promote health awareness and resilience during a challenging period for communities across the region. Alongside prevention and treatment efforts, scientific research is providing an important step toward improving future protection against Bundibugyo virus disease.
On 23 October 2026, the TUMAINI Phase 2/3 clinical trial of vaccine candidates against Bundibugyo virus disease was launched in Bunia, in the DRC’s Ituri Province. This research aims to generate evidence on vaccine candidates for a virus responsible for the current outbreak.
The trial is a promising development, but it is important to clarify that a vaccine specifically approved for Bundibugyo virus disease is not yet available. While research proceeds, early detection, appropriate medical care, infection prevention, and trusted community engagement remain essential.
Community awareness can help people distinguish reliable health guidance from rumours and misinformation. Families need clear information on how to reduce exposure risks, when to seek medical attention, and why instructions from trained health workers matter. Communication must also be respectful and should not stigmatize patients, families, or affected communities.
Development Alert’s community-focused priorities include sharing accurate prevention messages, promoting safe hygiene practices, and encouraging people to seek qualified medical advice when needed. These efforts complement the work of public health authorities and researchers by helping information reach people in accessible and practical ways.
Your generosity helps keep community needs at the centre of our work. Thank you for standing with Development Alert as we promote informed decisions, compassion, and stronger preparedness while research and response efforts continue.
