Exciting news – NGO Ba Futuru has been accepted for STARS Grand Challenges Canada!
We will use our popular Domin Nakloke (Unlocking Love) entertainment education film series, which deals with healthy relationships, contraception, and sexual and reproductive health and rights, together with its new family planning film Futuru Furak (Beautiful Future) film, to create awareness about these issues in youth (17-24 years) across Timor-Leste.
This will be achieved by empowering 12 young Changemakers to organize viewer groups, screening the films and holding discussions, and delivering pre, post and follow up surveys to gauge shifts in knowledge, attitudes, and practices.
Right now Ba Futuru is finalizing the discussion manuals for the Changemakers to use, and procuring tablets and mini projectors to facilitate the youth being able to share the films.

In June, Ba Futuru's media coordinator, Jacinta Pereira, and Co-Founder of Ba Futuru, Sierra James, spoke on the "Responsible Storytelling" panel at the Women Deliver conference in Vancouver Canada. In the same conference, the "Love is Respect" film (episode 4 of Domin Nakloke / Unlocking Love film series) was shown.
The Ba Futuru team made new connections with film makers and gender rights advocates from across the globe. We also got to meet the Former Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard. The Australian Government through their Partnership for Human Development has been the main donor for Ba Futuru's Unlocking Love Film series, and is also supporting the creation of the above mentioned discussion manual for the series.
