The war in Ukraine has left thousands of children with trauma, anxiety, and developmental challenges. UNIKO Inclusive Child Development Center provides free rehabilitation for war-affected children aged 3-18 and their families in the Rivne region. The project offers psychological support, art and sensory therapy, speech and developmental sessions, and parent counseling. By restoring emotional stability and resilience, UNIKO helps children heal, families cope, and communities recover.
Years of war in Ukraine have deeply affected children's mental health and development. Many children experience trauma, anxiety, emotional distress, and developmental delays caused by displacement, loss, and chronic stress. At the same time, access to professional rehabilitation and psychosocial support remains extremely limited, especially in smaller communities. Families, particularly mothers, are overwhelmed and lack the resources to support their children's recovery.
The project provides free, trauma-informed rehabilitation for war-affected children aged 3-18 and their families. Children receive psychological support, art and sensory therapy, speech and developmental sessions, while parents receive counseling and guidance. Services are delivered by a multidisciplinary team in a safe, inclusive environment, improving emotional well-being, reducing trauma symptoms, and helping families build resilience and support children's long-term recovery.
In the long term, the project helps war-affected children recover emotionally, develop coping and social skills, and successfully reintegrate into education and community life. Families become more resilient and better equipped to support their children's needs. By strengthening access to early rehabilitation and psychosocial care, the project reduces long-term mental health risks and contributes to healthier, more stable communities in post-war Ukraine.
