As our journey in Yucatán moves forward, we are witnessing a inspiring evolution in our partner schools. What began as a mission to bring technology to underserved Maya communities has transformed into a living ecosystem of digital learning. Students are no longer just interacting with devices for the first time; they are using them to express their ideas, explore interactive curricula, and deepen their learning—all while remaining rooted in their native culture and heritage.

Beyond the Basics: Deepening Pedagogical Skills

Building on the initial phase of digital adaptation, our Teacher Mentoring Program has reached exciting new heights. Teachers who once felt uncertain about technology are now designing their own digital lesson plans and guiding their students through collaborative projects.

To further empower these educators, we have expanded our mentorship to include advanced pedagogical tools, such as generative artificial intelligence for lesson planning and specialized reading comprehension workshops. By mastering these modern methodologies and pursuing global educational certifications, our teachers are proving that when given the right tools, rural educators can lead the way in educational innovation.

Closing the Digital Gap for Maya Communities 2026

The Heart of Our Mission: A Story of Equity

In the state of Yucatán, indigenous students face stark educational inequality; it is estimated that only 35% of these students manage to complete elementary school. Language barriers often worsen this issue, as most educational resources are only available in Spanish, leaving Maya-speaking children behind. Our project provides an inclusive pathway for these children to thrive without losing their cultural heritage, bridging traditional knowledge with essential 21st-century skills.

Historic Progress: Expanding from 2 to 4 Schools

We are thrilled to share that, thanks to a powerful network of allies, we have doubled our impact since our last update. Today, we have 4 fully equipped public primary schools in the state of Yucatán. This achievement was made possible not only through the generosity of our GlobalGiving community but also through strategic partnerships with Fundación BANORTE and DELL Technologies, who have joined us in championing digital transformation for rural communities.

Impact Achieved to Date:

4 schools with active technological infrastructure.
1,299 students benefited with new digital learning opportunities.
50 teachers supported through our Integral Model, receiving pedagogical and technical mentoring to integrate technology into the classroom.

The UNETE Model: More Than Just Hardware

Our methodology, the Program of School Strengthening (PFE), ensures that every computer serves a pedagogical purpose. Teachers are currently developing digital skills and preparing for Google for Education certifications, giving them the confidence to implement innovative teaching methods. By empowering the teacher, we create a lasting legacy that will resonate across generations in these Maya communities.

The Goal is Ambitious, and the Journey Continues

Despite this significant progress, our work is far from over. This project remains active, and we are determined to bring this opportunity to more schools still waiting in the digital dark.

Raised to Date: $3,384 USD (through 55 donations)
Remaining to be Raised:$29,362 USD
